Eudunda Show 2009 LAN & Gustav Trail Report
The Web South stand was a very busy area this year with lots of things happening, as the heat built up during the day, so did the competition.
Web South LAN gaming.
Luke & Toby Herriman, with the help of enthusiastic friends Colin & Keegan Wegener ran the LAN. New this year was that Toby ran the competition by setting up the server and he and Keegan did the final count down.
He said "We were surprised to have enough entries for two rounds. The competition was excellent.
The winners were 1st Tristan, 2nd Tom, and 3rd Blake who won some great posters".
Check the
LAN Gaming page here.
Gustav Trail.
Jenny Herriman was a very busy lady at this show, as she ran the start and finish of the Gustav Trail
(as well as helping with the LAN). She had lots of goodies to distribute to the eight other stops;
some also had added their own extra items to the trail. Jenny said
"Thanks must go to the very generous people,
organizations and businesses who donated to the trail and to those people who ran trail stops."

Also thanks to those who dropped in to give me such positive feedback.
This included ones like Natalie Scholz who along with her family to
run the "Sounds of the Past"
(see photos online) and Bill Harris of Trade Winds Gear
(he had a trade stand at the show and sells clothing, bracelets and sandals,
and there is a Eudunda link here too as Mallee Scrub also sell his
gear - see below for details on this new website).
Bill said "I was very happy that so many dropped in to say hello and chat while on the trail.
I would definitely be a trail stop again, thanks Jenny!"
"Thanks also to Kathy Marychurch for spending time at our stand to keep an eye on things and helping us overall"
Jenny said.
Launch of New Website
A special surprise at the Web South stand;
Mallee Scrub one of our local Eudunda business celebrated the launch of their first web shop
www.malleescrub.com.au at the Eudunda Show.
The site has been constructed by Peter Herriman of Web South,
who said "It’s been a pleasure to finally deliver the web shop for Darlene Jenke.
The launch was a quiet affair, and I am sure you will hear much more from Darlene about their site in the media soon".
ECBAT stand
Peter said, "We were a bit unlucky to not have the
Clare Valley Tourism display at the ECBAT stand.
Their staff were quite ill and unable to help supply the material leading up to the show, and we look forward to having it
here next year.
It was good that we could do something along the line of business promotion with the launch of the Mallee Scrub website and for tourism promotion with first details of the Morgan Commemoration Fair which will celebrate the 170th Anninversary of the Mt Bryan Expedition on Saturday 12th December 09 (Eudunda has a link with this expedition in the Hearnshaw Memorial at Neales Flat). Web South actually host the website Mid Murray Meander which is also associated with this expedition. What with Jenny looking after the final leg of the Gustav Trail at the ECBAT stand - it was quite busy here."
Roundup
Peter Herriman said. "I also noticed this year that there were less retirees attending.
I love to meet up with them at the show, and hear the odd yarn or two;
I guess they were scared off by the heat (and that it was too).
To me; this was the "Year of Youth”. I felt that there was a fantastic number of youth not only attend the show, but also "participate” in its activities, to me there is a big difference, and it was great to see. I would have to say that this was a great endorsement into the effort of the show committee and other organizations such as "Eudunda Christian Group” who ran the great Eudunda Show Community Festival (that slippery pole was fun) and ourselves at Web South with its LAN gaming in bringing the variety of items to the show.
I could see great participation in the cooking and other crafts, the boot art and colouring in completion from ECBAT and other areas where even the much younger kids had a go. It was also good to be around when the "proud Mums” were looking at the results. As with every show, it’s such a busy time, with so many things on at the same time, I missed out on the dog jumping where I found out later that Simon Schmidt’s dog jumped 1.8m. WOW! I also missed the jumping rabbits which were a crowd favourite. I did see the Keyneton Motorcycle Club boys do some stunts, and "Weckie get bucked off the bull – what a hero to try, (along with many younger ones). I caught up with the Poultry section, where; convener Mark Ramsay said they are trying to encourage kids by allowing "farm birds” to enter, so anyone can have a go! I seen Adelaide Magic perform in the BankSA marquee, the Horses in Action, and Dieners Solar and Wind display. I hope I have a funny photo of "Sootie” loaded up with big tyres in a wheelbarrow and Paul Schiller’s original condition 1936 Lanz Bulldog crawler tractor, with its unique technique for starting (which "crasher” demonstrated). There were many other displays in the "Sounds of the Past” which were both original and lovingly restored and in working condition. The One Stop Enviro Show was full of interesting things too. I always like to check out the Coopers Home Brew competition and it was interesting to see in one of the school displays a section on the Eudunda Area School Ag Students visit to Craneford Wines at Truro where they work to learn winemaking and that they labelled their wines "Hidden Valley Wines” (which is great encouragement for us at ECBAT that our district’s school kids are following along with the marketing ideas of the district). In the vegetable section we once again met up with the "Voigt family” from North of Wilmington who strongly support the show with entries every year. I also met up with some members of the Northern Ag Society who faithfully come and support our show (two of those were also from Wilmington). I also found out that the Baked Potato people Richard and Jeanette Bailey chose the Eudunda Show as their last show event to work at – after 23 years of service, we wish them all the best in retirement.
Overall I believe this years Eudunda Show was a great success, despite the hot weather.
I would also like to tell everyone about a big show event being held here in Eudunda on the
20th 27th March next year, where the
Judging of the 2009/2010 YOUNG RURAL AMBASSADOR & GRAND AGGREGATE TROPHY
will be held here with representatives from Agricultural Shows throughout SA will compete here. This event draws a very big crowd and I ask Eudunda to support it.
Keep your eye on the website over the next week to see photos of this years show.
